PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has committed to investing in Luapula province through aquaculture projects noting that the province has so much potential for proper fish production due to its abundance of water.
Meeting various stakeholders in Chief Matanda’s area in Mansa District yesterday ahead of the Chabula Isandulula traditional ceremony, President Hichilema stated that Luapula province alone has the potential to feed the whole nation with fish.
He further said there was need for his cabinet to invest in knowing more about the province to see the potential that he sees in it.
“Just that Chifunabuli, we can do great things. We will invest more in the fish farming around here because we have depleted the natural bodies. Yes we will restock but let’s fish farm. This province can feed the whole Zambia with fish, just this province alone. And this government will pay particular attention to make these investments,” said President Hichilema.
The Head of State noted that government also intends on harnessing the energy sector by exploring the water that Luapula holds.
He said the water bodies stand as a catalyst for economic development especially when it comes to mining, agriculture, energy and other sectors.
“It also has great potential for mining and agriculture. Electricity is another area that this got us focused on exploring to generate electricity. There’s potential in this province, Luapula river, Lake Bangweulu.”
“I have asked my ministers not just to move around but to open their eyes and speak to the local people about the value of this province because it’s only people who can tell you what they want. Local knowledge is powerful,” he said.
