THE Eastern and Southern Cotton Organisation (EASCO) has taken a significant step towards promoting gender equality and empowering women in the cotton industry.
In partnership with awe Effect, EASCO has sponsored 15 female extension officers from Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe to undergo training in data management, agroforestry, sustainable cotton production, and climate-smart technology.
The training initiative aims to enhance women’s participation in cotton production, bolster their economic resilience, and equip them with the skills necessary to produce high-quality cotton sustainably in the face of climate change.
Speaking at the sidelines of the EASCO Female Extension Officers Training in Lusaka, EASCO board chairperson Diriana Lwanda highlighted the importance of regional integration and policy harmonisation in driving increased cotton production.
She noted that there was a need for stronger regional linkages among partner organisations to facilitate knowledge sharing and opportunities for cotton producers.
Lwanda emphasised that regional experience sharing and policy collaboration are essential for boosting the cotton sector.
