Government says it will prioritise giving space to the evicted Munyaule traders once the modern market is done.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Local Government Minister Garry Nkombo said the move to relocate the traders from Munyaule market is to pave the way for the construction of a modern market.

Nkombo stated the construction of a new market aims to enhance the market’s infrastructure and create a more conducive trading environment for traders and shoppers alike.

He disclosed that this measure is meant to prevent outbreaks of various diseases in the future like Cholera.

The minister added that the construction of a modern market is a project that was initiated by the Patriotic Front -PF which the new dawn government wants to carry forward in order to provide a safe and clean environment.

“The council has secured space behind BH and New Soweto markets for traders to temporarily conduct businesses as they wait the completion of the modern market at Munyaule,” he said.

” Some traders have already been accommodated along Lumumba road just before the main Lumumba market and 120 were taken to City market.”

Nkombo also refuted reports in the press that 4000 traders were evicted but that the correct number of affected traders is 920.
