Grant to use new players in Chipolopolo clash against Malawi

ZAMBIA’s coach, Avram Grant, is shaking things up for their match against Malawi today

With veteran defender Stophila Sunzu out, Grant plans to use this friendly match as a testing ground for new players.

This is a risky move, but Grant sees it as their last chance to experiment before crucial games ahead.

Zambia is booked for a match against host Malawi in the third and fourth play offs for the ongoing Four Nations Invitational tournament.

Grant says he is ready to try out new players for today’s class against the Flames.

“This is the last time that we can try things that we didn’t do before – try new players and see if they are good for our team,” said Grant.

Despite the remarks Grants acknowledged that the game will not be a walk in the park.

The former Chelsea boss said he foresaw a tough match ahead because it is against Zambia’s neighbours but noted that his team is working on creating a solid winning mentality that it showed last year.

During the weekend, Chipolopolo blew a 2 goals lead to lose 6 – 5 on post-match penalties after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time.

But despite the loss, Grant was impressed by the boy’s performance before the mistakes overshadowed their class.

“I was very pleased with our first game; we were leading 2-nil, and we played well. We made two mistakes, and it cost us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Grants said today’s game is going to be a learning match.

He stated that Zambia will be ready to do things that will help the team in the future such as trying out new players.

Today is a set up for two matches as Zambia will battle with Malawi at Bingu National Stadium in a 14:00 hours kick-off while the Warriors of Zimbabwe take on the Harambe Stars of Kenya in the final at 17:00 hours.
