WITH only eight days to the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) Zambian defender Frankie Musonda is optimistic and hopeful of making fans proud during the competition.
Zambia’s National Team received a significant boost as players Lameck Banda, Frankie Musonda, and Gift Mphande joined Grant’s 27-member squad in Saudi Arabia for the Ivory Coast 2023 AfCON.
Defender Frank Musonda shared insights into the team’s intense preparations for their inaugural AFCON match on January 17, 2023, against Congo DR.
Musonda, who recently returned from a six to seven-week injury hiatus, expressed his excitement,
“I’m really excited to be back in the camp. I was unfortunate to get injured in October, and I missed out,” said Musonda.
He emphasized the team’s commitment to thorough preparation during the camp.
“At my personal level, all I need to do is to first recover and work tactically with the manager and coaches to give the team good preparation for the coming games and tournament,” he added.
The 27-man squad representing Zambia arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday for a nine-day training session.
Musonda acknowledged the challenging opponents in their group F which includes Morocco, Tanzania, and Congo DR,
“It’s a very exciting group. Everyone is a good team; everyone knows what they are doing. These games will be tough, but again, each game we can win, so I’m very excited and that is why we need to concentrate.”
As the team focuses on their mission, Musonda urged Zambian soccer lovers to stand by them.
“I’m sure we will see your support back home through social media, and we just hope we will make you proud.”
After their opening match against the DRC, Zambia will face Tanzania four days later, with their final group match against Morocco’s the Atlas Lions on January 24.
Ahead of these challenges, an international friendly against Cameroon on January 9 awaits the team.
Meanwhile, while SuperSport will not be broadcasting the tournament, local fans can follow the continental showpiece from home through the national broadcaster (ZNBC) and Diamond TV as the 2024 AFCON approaches in eight days.
