Set eyes on WAFCON trophy, World Cup qualification, Bally rallies Zambia

FOLLOWING Zambia qualifying to the Africa Cup of Nations last night, President Hakainde Hichilema rallied the women’s national team to now set their sights on winning the coveted trophy and world cup qualification.

President Hichilema explained in a Facebook page that the recent qualification for the WAFCON marks just the beginning of their ambitious campaign as more work need to be done.

“Qualifying for the WAFCON with a bang. Great work, girls!”

“More work starts now ahead of the tournament and (let’s) set our eyes on the trophy (WAFCON) itself and another qualification to the World Cup.”

The momentum continues as both the Chipolopolo boys and the Copper Queens have secured simultaneous qualifications in the continent’s most prestigious competitions.

Meanwhile Football Association President Andrew Kamanga hailed the Copper Queens for their third consecutive WAFCON qualification, achieved with an impressive 12-0 aggregate victory over Angola.

Last night, the Copper Queens showcased their prowess, repeating a resounding 6-0 victory over Angola’s women’s team, previously achieved in Luanda last week.

The WAFCON Final Round, Second Leg Qualifier witnessed a commanding performance with goals from: Racheal Kundananji 5’, 87’, Barbra Banda 14’, Susan Banda 46’, Avell Chitundu 71’ and Esther Banda 76’

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga commended the Copper Queens for consistently making the nation proud by qualifying to the continental showpiece in Morocco next year.

“The team’s growth is evident, consistently improving our performance at each tournament,” he remarked.

With qualification secured, Kamanga highlighted the need for meticulous preparation such as working closely with the technical bench to design an intensive preparatory programme.

Kamanga acknowledged the thousands of fans at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola sating their unwavering support fueled the Copper Queens to victory in their debut at the 44,000-capacity stadium.
