ZAMBIA’s Female National Team Doctor, Faith Chibesa, has announced that Grace Chanda, the second captain, striker, and midfielder for the Copper Queens, will unfortunately miss the upcoming World Cup due to an illness.
The exact nature of the illness has not been disclosed yet.
Chibesa confirmed that Chanda is currently receiving treatment from the medical team in Auckland, New Zealand, where the team is based.
The medical staff is providing her with the necessary attention and care, and they are hopeful that she will make a full recovery in due time.
However, Chanda’s condition means she will be unable to participate in the tournament.
In light of this development, the technical bench has made the necessary substitution in accordance with FIFA rules.
Comfort Selemani, the 19-year-old forward and midfielder, will step in to fill Grace Chanda’s place in the squad.
“We have done everything we can to help her, she is receiving all the attention and the help that she needs, and she will get well as time goes by; it’s just that she will not be able to participate in the tournament,” stated Chibesa.
Apart from first choice goal keeper, Hazel Nali, Chanda and Selemani, the rest of the 24-member squad is in good health and ready for the upcoming game against Japan.
