United for Better Zambia (UBZ) president Apostle Hector Soondo made the announcement of his party’s exit from the alliance in a letter to chairperson Sakwiba Sikota.

Top on the list of reasons for the party’s exit from the UKA according to Soondo was; “Failure to discipline Ms. Saboi Imboela and Phumulo Situmbeko who disrespected the former Head of State Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu in their voice notes.”

Soondo also listed the alliance’s failure to discipline Citizens First Party members for insulting Lungu’s intelligence

“Lack of respect towards the former President Edgar Lungu by council of Presidents to the extent of taking advantage of the Eligibility Case that President Lungu will never be on ballot paper in 2026 and the Court will not allow him as if you are the judges in the matter,” Soondo complained.

He accused the alliance leadership of failing to involve others in the working relationship in counsultion with the assembly of Presidents and the Council of Secretary Generals in decision making.

“If you can’t do that with a small number of UKA alliance members, can you do it with the millions of Zambians,” Soondo wondered.

“As united for Better Zambia UBZ Party from eight months we have been working with you, we have just observed that you are just time wasters and you are wasting Zambian People’s time who have put hope in UKA when you are not even ready to help them from getting out of the hardship they are going through now and form government soon just like it was clearly in the two linked audios were your UKA founder partner Saboi Imboela said you as UKA you are not in a hurry to form government in 2026,” Soondo.

“Due to these and many other reasons,we feel we cannot continue working together as partners because seemingly we have different objectives. We therefore wish to categorically state that we have resigned from being members of the United Kwacha Alliance,” added Soondo.
