A LUSAKA City Council officer is nursing serious wounds after four bus crew members turned him into a ball and a drum, as they used their legs to kick and hands to painfully massage him.
To the surprise of many, among the the people fingered in the act, was a woman, Alex Muleka aged 24 who also participated in inflicting pain on the officer, Francis Mwanza who was on duty chasing after street vendors that have mastered the art of Samukongaling everytime they see the LCC vehicle or uniform.
According to the police the other suspects include two bus drivers Abel Sambwa, 34, Nicholas Banda, 49 and conductors Emmanuel Sakala aged 33 all from different parts of Lusaka.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the four have been arrested in connection with the assault on Mwanza on September 24, 2024, near Kulima Tower bus station.
“Mr Mwanza, along with seven of his colleagues, was on duty, wearing his Lusaka City Council Police uniform, and engaged in removing street vendors in the area,” Hamoonga said.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted him, using slaps and kicks, which caused him to sustain a swollen left side of the head and a cut on his lips. A Police Medical Form was issued to the victim for medical attention.”
The four suspects were formally charged and arrested yesterday but have since been released on police bond and are expected to appear in court soon.
The Zambia Police Service further reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring that justice is served in this case.
