SELUKA munsapato, pombosoka mu belt wankala kaili manje (remove your shoes and belt you are now behind bars) is what people are assuming happened to Lundazi cop who has been detained for allegedly robbing the local Indo Zambia Bank branch.
The officer whose name has been withheld but stationed at Lundazi Police Station, was identified as one of the five suspects who allegedly carried out the daring heist.
Three other individuals, including a South African national, were apprehended in Malawi, where they had fled after the crime.
It is reported that the robbery happened over two weeks ago around 18:40 hours when suspected robbers armed with a pistol and machetes gained entry into the Indo Zambia Bank.
They are reported to have tied up an unarmed security guard and three bank officials, including the manager with cello tape but failed to get the cash because there were no keys to the safe.
After their failed attempt, the five robbers then confiscated two laptops and 2 phones from bank officials and fled the scene with a vehicle belonging to the bank manager.
the following day, Lundazi authorities recovered some stolen items.
ZANIS reported that Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, revealed that they recovered a Toyota Alphard Motor Vehicle Registration Number AID 965 which was used as a get away mobility and two mobile phones.
Mweemba said the vehicle was found abandoned in an undisclosed area and the two phones were also recovered in a public toilet in Lundazi district.
Police are still carrying out investigations while the officer is having a dose of what he makes criminals feel – being behind bars under police custody.
