THE Journey to kuchalo ichamalubaluba of a 20-year-old student nurse of Chingola district on the Copperbelt has been cut as police came to her rescue before she reached the other side of life.
The young lady who is currently studying for a diploma in Nursing at Kitwe School of Nursing had created a blue print of how she was going to say good bye yesterday without making anyone suspicious.
It is reported that around 13:00 hours, she had lunch with her roommates and even shared light moments as usual.
But two hours later, she suddenly left her room and boarding house without telling anyone about her destination.
According to reports, Before leaving, the survivor, was said to be in high spirit like she was the one who scored the free kick to seal Zambia’s victory against Sierra Leone in the AfCON qualifiers on Tuesday.
Unlike many who go to these lodges to perform adult acrobatics, the young lady went to the lodge and booked a K700 room, to transition into the next life with comfort.
In the room, she called for room service and ordered chips and some wine to enjoy her supposed last hours.
While at the lodge, she started texting and contacting her close family members in the evening sending them goodbye messages and informed them that Wednesday would be her last day on earth.
She was even so hospital enough to tell the family the number of the room so that they won’t waste their energies in looking amiss so she told them that her body would be found in room 133 at a named lodge.
In her message she told the ones she contacted that no one should be blamed for her death as it was her sole decision.
Concerned by the messages she sent, her relatives started contacting one another and made haste to the nearest police where they reported the matter before it was too late.
As fast as electricity cuts during these dark times of loadsheding, the police swiftly took to their heels and rushed to the lodge.
Upon reaching the lodge, police found room 133 at the named lodge locked from the inside, with the student nurse inside.
The officers then forced entry by damaging the locking system and found the victim in the room lying unconscious.
Copperbelt police commanding officer, Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident and said officers detected a pungent smell of a suspected poisonous substance and found an empty bottle of wine, and a plate of fried chips.
He added that officers, along with the victim’s relatives, rushed her to Wusakile Mine Hospital, where medical staff resuscitated and treated her.
Mweemba said the lodge manager, Michael Mumbi, 36, made a formal report to Wusakile Police station and indicated his client, attempted to commit suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance for reasons yet unknown.
“The student has since been placed under emergency observation, as the medical staff have since described her condition as stable and out of danger,” said Mweemba.
