CHIPATA was abuzz with excitement this week as footballer Fashion Sakala returned to his village.
Joined by his wife, Sakala wasn’t there for handshakes and speeches, he was there to personally distribute 120 wheelchairs to identified community members living with disabilities.
The smiles on the faces of the recipients were truly heartwarming. One by one, individuals were able to test out their new chairs, their faces lighting up as they gained newfound independence.
The 27 year old Chipolopolo player based in Saudi, wasn’t just handing out equipment; he was rekindling the ability to move freely, to explore their surroundings, and to participate more fully in everyday life.
This generous donation reflects Sakala’s deep commitment to his community.
“I’m grateful and honoured to my father and the entire community who are always helping with identifying the families and individuals in need of such assistance. It’s a privilege and honour to be able to show love to our beautiful disabilities families,” Sakala shared on his Facebook page.
“By offering these wheelchairs, I hope to enhance their mobility and quality of life, demonstrating my love, care and unwavering commitment to their well being,”
This isn’t Sakala’s first act of philanthropy in his hometown. Just recently, he completed construction of a new secondary boarding school named after him, and a health facility to serve the community.
He’s also invested K700,000 in promoting local talent by sponsoring a football competition in Eastern Province.
Fashion Sakala is showing everyone the true meaning of community spirit – by giving back and empowering those who need it most.
