THE Zambia Air Force (ZAF) this morning dispatched two helicopters, an AB-212 and an Enstrom-480, to assist in the search for the missing Malawi military aircraft that vanished after departing from Lilongwe with Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others on board.
The deployment of the helicopters was ordered by President Hakainde Hichilema, Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Force, according to a statement from the Zambia Air Force.
Tragically, the wreckage of the plane has been located, and all occupants, including Chilima, have lost their lives.
The other deceased victims include, Major Flora Selemani Ngwirinji, Lukas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni , Gloria Mtukule, Dan Kanyemba, Abdul Kingstone Lapukeni, Major Adini and Colonel Sambalopa.
Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the devastating news in a national address earlier today.
Zambia Air Force and Malawi Defence Force are now working together to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
