THE Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has announced the fixtures for the upcoming 2024/2025 season, along with the introduction of two new cup competitions and increased support for women’s football.
The season kicks off on August 10 with the Charity Shield, which will for the first time include a women’s matchup alongside the traditional men’s game.
For the men, the charity Shield will see Red Arrows face off against Kabwe Warriors, while the Women’s Charity Shield will feature Green Buffaloes Women competing against the winner between Nchanga Rangers Queens and Choma Warriors.
The ZPL also announced the introduction of the Champion of Champions Cup and the ZPL Challenge Cup.
The ZPL Challenge Cup, said to be the most lucrative cup competition in the league, will be open to all teams across the top two tiers of men’s and women’s football in Zambia.
This is a significant development for Zambian football, particularly for women’s football which is set to receive increased sponsorship from next season.
The ZPL CEO, Joseph Chimpampwe, announced that the Women’s Super Division will have a sponsor for the upcoming season, with similar support planned for the National League for both men and women.
“We are excited to unveil the fixtures for both the MTN Super League and the Women’s Super-Division, which will run concurrently starting August 17,” Chimpampwe said.
“The Charity Shield, sponsored by Zambian Breweries, will feature both men’s and women’s matches, marking a historic inclusion of women’s teams in the event.”
