25 year old Madalisto Mwamgwewo, or Madstix as he is known in the music industry, isn’t just your ordinary drummer but an entrepreneur making a change on the music scene.
Inspired by a sermon on productivity, Madstix embarked on a mission to transform Zambia’s music scene, one drumstick at a time.
Faced with limited access to quality instruments, Madstix identified a gap in the market. He began by crafting drumsticks from locally sourced wood, a testament to his resourcefulness and commitment to supporting local talent.
This innovation paved way for him to become the first Zambian to create professional Zambian-made drumsticks.
As his reputation grew, Madstix transitioned to hickory, a superior wood known for its durability.
This innovation not only elevated the quality of his drumsticks but also earned him the respect of Zambian musicians.
“Madstix began in 2019 as a concept inspired by a sermon at Bread of Life, which declared that year as the year of divine productivity. We faced financial challenges in producing sticks in bulk and struggled to penetrate the market. Over the years, we’ve observed other musicians introducing their own ideas.”
“Our vision for Madstix is to become the leading brand of sticks used globally by everyone. We also aim to inspire others through our journey,” Mwangwewo told Kalemba.
Mwangwewo’s vision extended beyond drumsticks. He founded a musical instrument sourcing company called Madgear, which makes high-quality instruments from abroad accessible to musicians of all levels in Zambia.
This not only empowered musicians but also fostered a more vibrant music scene in Zambia.
Mwangwewo’s dedication has transcended business with other business partnership and ventures.
He has become an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that with passion and innovation, even a simple idea can make a world of difference.
