TWO illegal miners have been killed, while another was injured in a mine collapse at the KCM Cop 5 dumpsite in Chingola on Saturday evening.

Copperbelt Province police commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, which occurred around 19:00 hours.

Prince Chilumba, 19, and Collins Nkweto, 20, both residents of Chingola, died after a pile of earth fell on them, burying them instantly.

A third person, Jackson Illunga, 22, was pulled from the collapse alive and is receiving treatment at Chawama Mini Hospital.

Thankfully his condition is reported to be stable.

Mweemba revealed that Nkweto’s body sustained a severed right arm, likely caused by equipment used during the rescue attempt.

The bodies of Chilumba and Nkweto are being held at the Nchanga North General Hospital mortuary pending burial arrangements.
