Chama man wanted for murder dies in exile

A MANHUNT in Chama district has ended tragically after the suspect, Alfred Zimba, 30, was found dead in the bush.

Zimba was wanted for allegedly assaulting Thomas Zimba, 35, who later died at Tembwe Rural Health Centre.

According to Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer Paul Achiume, Zimba went missing on March 2, 2024, around the same time Thomas succumbed to his injuries.

Achiume said Zimba upon hearing that the person he had assaulted had died, went into hiding for the fear of being arrested.

He said the now deceased phoned his mother the same day, stating his intentions of commiting suicide.

An investigation file has been opened into the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding Zimba’s death as the cause of his death remains unknown pending an autopsy.
