ACC nabs Mufulira councilor for yielding to Bishop’s temptation

A MUFULIRA ward councillor on the Copperbelt has been arrested for allegedly succumbing to the lure of easy money, allegedly pocketing a bribe from a bishop in exchange for expediting a loan request.

Kamuchanga Ward six councilor, Paul Chileshe seemingly unable to resist the bishop’s temptation, now faces one count of corrupt practices with a private
body, Joseatec General Dealers.

Anti-Corruption Commission Head Corporate Communications Timothy
Moono disclosed that Chileshe a member of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), allegedly solicited K35,000 from Bishop Josphat Bwalya.

It is reported that from the said amount, Chileshe received K10,000 as a reward
or inducement for having helped him to get a loan of K186,000 from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at Mufulira Municipal Council.

Moono said Chileshe has since been released on bond and will appear in
Court soon.

The Commission warned WDC members in the habit of soliciting bribes from members of the public to access CDF funds, that they risked being arrested and prosecuted.

“CDF funds should be used for its intended purpose of developing
communities,” added Moono.
