POLICE investigations have revealed that Former Zambia Airforce Commander and ex minister, retired Lieutenant General Ronald Shikapwasha was shot and killed by wife Jane Lusengo.
The 73-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder today, January 19, 2024, following an investigation into the incident that occurred at their residence in Ibex Lusaka on Sunday, January 14.
Police allege that Mrs. Shikapwasha used a double-barreled shotgun with serial number 168462 to shoot her husband in the abdomen, causing a fatal wound.
Lt General Shikapwasha later died at Maina Soko Military Hospital on January 15 at 21:40 hours
“Following an intensive and thorough investigation conducted by Twin Palm Police Station, substantial evidence was gathered, leading to the arrest of Jane Lusengo Shikapwasha,” a statement from police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga reads.
Mrs. Shikapwasha is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and police are continuing their investigation.
“The Zambia Police Service is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent legal process,” Hamoonga stated.
“We would like to reassure the public that we are dedicated to upholding the rule of law and will continue to work diligently to bring this investigation to a just resolution.”
