AS an act of revenge for a fellow thief caught and beaten by irate residents, a group of junkies wielding machetes reportedly instilled fear in Kamwala residents and kidnapped a shop keeper on Tuesday.
According to Kamwala Ward Councilor, Mainda Simataa the group went on a rampage following the apprehension and beating of one of their associates caught stealing from a Rwandese shop who was later taken to the University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
In the course of their terrorizing spree, the junkies inflicted injuries on a resident, leaving them bleeding from wounds caused by their machetes.
Simataa highlighted that one of the attackers was apprehended and urged community members to assist the police in providing information that could lead to the arrest of the entire gang.
He further disclosed that the incident had been reported to Kabwata Police Station, and the Lusaka Province Police Commissioner had been informed.
The commissioner assured the community of continuous patrols and a dedicated effort to apprehend the gang, believed to be based in Misisi compound.
