Zambezi residents flee homes after tribal clash

SEVERAL people are said to have fled their homes in Zambezi District of North-Western Province where tribal differences between Luvales and Lundas degenerated into violent street battles.

Several people were injured in the clashes yesterday while property is said to have been damaged.

According to authorities, two of the injured victims are admitted to Zambezi District Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

It is also reported that the incident had also resulted in severe damage to structures.

Videos have already started flooding the internet of people crying, making a run for safety while some houses were burnt.

Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the incident stating that 25 cases, ranging from Assault, Malicious Damage to Property, Arson, and Unlawful Wounding were received by local authorities

“So far no arrest has been made as investigations are ongoing,” added Mwale.

However, paramilitary officers have been dispatched to reinforce local officers in the district in maintaining law and order.

At the moment, the situation is reported to be calm as Police have intensified patrols.

  1. This conflict is an old habit between these two tribes. Let the govt find a long lasting solution to this fracas.
    Let Zambia be of one people regardless of the tribe one belong to.

    It’s a very sad development.
