THE Ministry of Mines is taking a hard stance against non-compliant mining operations, resulting in a crackdown on license holders who have long skirted their responsibilities.
In a bold move to uphold regulations and boost revenue, the the Mines Development Department (MDD), Mining Cadastre Department (MCD), and Geological Survey have collectively issued fines totaling an impressive K22 million to defiant mine operators.
These penalties are being imposed due to violations including failure to submit crucial mineral returns and operational reports, mandated by the Mines and Minerals Act.
Some of the firms fined include limestone resources limited, Kasanshi Mining PLC, Konkola Mineral Resources, Chilanga cement, among others to a collective fine of K22,320,000.
