Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, has issued a directive stating that only the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) will be authorized to provide information regarding the recent gold scandal.
DEC director general, Nason Banda, had previously announced the confiscation of a private plane containing $5.6 million, suspected gold bars, and firearms.
In a contradictory statement, Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe later clarified that the seized minerals were not gold but rather a mixture of copper and other minerals.
Mwiimbu emphasized ongoing investigations and confirmed that the DEC would continue to provide updates on the situation.
He also affirmed that both the chartered aircraft and the 10 detained suspects remained under the custody of state security agencies.
