NON-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Board chairperson Grace Sinkamba has praised President Hakainde Hichilema for being gender inclusive in his appointments.
Yesterday, President Hichilema swore in three women – Judith Mulenga as Zambia’s Ambassador to France, Kusobile Kamwambi as head of the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) and her deputy, Chipo Mwanawasa.
Those appointments have triggered Sinkamba to thank President Hichilema, for appointing more women to senior government positions.
She was speaking when she appeared on Hot FM’s Hot Seat programme yesterday.
“We have noticed that the President has heard our plea and the number of women being employed in the presidential unit. This shows that the President listened to our prayer and lamentations of gender inclusiveness,” Sinkamba said.
“As women, we are happy that we are being considered to lead in the corrididors of decision-making by way of Cabinet, Parliament and we pray that he will continue on that trajectory of appointing more women in key positions at whatever opportunity he gets to.”
She added that the Constitution of Zambia provides that whoever is in a a position to appoint should ensure there is gender balance in the appointments they make.
Sinkamba added that the 2021 general elections had few female candidates, at every level, noting that such was fuelled by violence, bullying and harassment
