NON-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Board chairperson Grace Sinkamba has called for committed training of girl children from young stages to prepare them to take up key decision making positions.
Sinkamba was speaking today when she appeared on Hot FM’s Hot Seat programme.
She explained the importance of growing a sense of leadership in girls while they are still young and allowing them to understand that they can also lead in society, aside from only being followers.
“Girls can take up decision-making positions right from community levels. If you can be a prefect or head girl at school, then you can also be a member of parliament, a councillor, a mayor, or a manger somewhere. Women should begin to take up these positions,” Sinkamba said.
She indicated that the NGOCC is making trajectory movements on ensuring that girl children are put in the forefront, as keynote speakers even at small events like delivering thanksgiving speeches during donations or school events.
