Lusaka lab offers free DNA tests

A PRIVATELY-run DNA Laboratory in Lusaka’ Northmead area is offering “Peace of Mind” paternity DNA tests for the next six weeks.

In the last few weeks there has been false information on social media claiming that DNA tests cost K90,000 but has been refuted government.

Global DNA Zambia customer care representative Lemmy Beede Beede said Global DNA Zambia located in Lusaka’s Northmead is offering free DNA testing for couples who want to find out the paternity of their children but do not have the finances to do so.

However, for participants to be eligible for the free DNA testing, they will have to give Global DNA Zambia consent to record the footage of the whole process and publish the content to the public for their show.

The programme is called Global DNA closure under that the tagline ‘Peace of Mind DNA testing’ which is also aimed at giving affected individuals closure.

“For clients who would like conduct their DNA test in private they can still do it’s at a charge,” said Beede.

Meanwhile Beede revealed that Global DNA Zambia conducts a minimum of five DNA tests per month and a maximum of about 15.

Beede said for a private institution like theirs, DNA cost about K4000 for three sample tests can’t exceed K10,000.

He however said the most expensive DNA test is the one conducted on a pregnant woman which is approximately more than K28,000.
