A GRADE 3 pupil of Kayuni Primary School in Chirundu has died after being attacked by a crocodile as she drew water in the Zambezi River yesterday morning.
Diana Siabeba was attacked by the reptile around 06:00 hours.
According to Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the victim was in the company of her two siblings at the Siaulembu area along the Zambezi River.
However, as they three completed fetching water, Diana’s two siblings went ahead but heard noise behind them.
When they looked back they realised that the victim was missing.
“A search party was (later) launched in the water and 40 minutes later, the victim’s body was retrieved,” Mwale said.
“It (the body) was found with cuts on her left arm.”
Mwale said the body has been deposited in Mtendere Mission Hospital Mortuary waiting for postmortem and burial.
