A youth of Lusaka’s Jack compound has been crushed to death by a goods train after he jumped off a light truck that stood in its way.
In a bid to save his life, the deceased identified as Isaac Masuka aged 23 is said to have jumped off the Mitsubishi Canter light truck driven by his friend after noticing that it had stopped on the rail track.
Unfortunately, Masuka did not jump early enough to escape death as the train rammed into the truck and swept him along with it killing him instantly.
The driver, Lucky Sichilo survived the accident which happened on Tuesday afternoon near Kamwala Remand Correctional Facility.
Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the death.
“One person died after a vehicle he was traveling in was hit by a Goods Train at the Junction near Kamwala Remand Correctional Facility,” Mwale said.
Mwale said the driver, Sichilo, sustained minor injuries while his motor vehicle was extensively damaged.
He disclosed that Sichilo was arrested and is currently detained waiting to be formally charged.
“The body of the deceased was deposited in the University Teaching Hospitals mortuary waiting for postmortem and burial,” he added.
