Local tourists can boost Zambia’s tourism sector – Sikumba

THE Ministry of Tourism has launched its 2023-2026 communication strategy and Website, with the aim of making the tourism sector a billion dollar sector .

Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba says local tourism business has the potential to contribute to the growing tourism industry, if they partner with the government.

Speaking during the launch at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka on Thursday evening, Sikumba said the communication strategy targets to enhance revenue and make the tourism sector a billion dollar sector.

The minister said the sector had the potential to rake in billions if more local and international partners came on board.

He said the 2023-2026 communication strategy and Website will also ease access to tourism services for both international and local tourism.

Sikumba further encouraged local tourism businesses to take advantage of the communication strategy and Website and contribute to the growing tourism industry.

He added that local tourism business has the potential to contribute to the growing tourism industry, if they partner with the government.

Meanwhile, Sikumba appealed to the media to make use of the Website, saying it would make things easier for journalists.

He said the launch of the strategy will turn the Ministry of Tourism into a good source for the media, as it would also be easy for journalists to place their press queries there

At the same event, Tourism Council of Zambia (TCZ) Board member Chanda Mwale said the launch of the communication strategy and Website will help to address the many challenges in the tourism industry.

The event was attended by key tourism industry captains and media personalities.

Among the attendees were Ministry of Tourism permanent secretary Evans Muhanga, his arts counterpart Chama Fumba, ZNBC director general Berry Lwando and ZANIS director Loyce Saili, among others .
