PF acting vice-president Given Lubinda has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to bar the UPND from the forthcoming by elections due to political violence.
Lubinda said in a press briefing today that the ECZ should not allow to participate in the by-election, owing to their continuous violation of the code of conduct and activities against their opponents so that they can retain some level of confidence that has been eroded by the recently appointed commissioners in the ECZ.
This comes after violence was witnessed during campaigns in Serenje’s Muchijda ward where Socialist Party president where Fred M’membe was allegedly attacked by UPND supporters.
Chitimukulu ward (Chililabombwe district), Katilye Wmward (Lupososhi district)
and Muchinda ward will hold by-elections on April 20, 2023.
“The UPND uses violence intimidation and collusion with government institutions to rig elections. Every by-election since August 2021 has been met with widespread violence orchestrated by the UPND, ” Lubinda said at a press briefing today.
Lubinda said if President Hakainde Hichilema does not intervene in the violence, PF members will be forced to defend themselves.
He also added that President Hichilema should be held accountable for any lives that will be lost, due to violence.
Lubinda added that President Hichilema has not condemned the violence but still says caderism ended.
