The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has taken to court four Chinese owned companies for the offences of tax evasion.
The accused are Eagles Eye Transformation Limited, Focus on Equipment and Services Limited, Mineral Junxion and Transport Limited, Taurus Mining Resources Limited.
According to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Acting Corporate Communications Officer
Oliver Nzala, the four companies are believed to have furnished documents namely Tax Invoices to ZRA purporting to show that Mount Meru Petroleum (Z) Limited, Kap Five Mining and General Supplies Limited had supplied taxable goods to Eagles Eye Transformation Limited, Focus Equipment and Services Limited, Mineral Junxion, Transport Limited and Taurus Mining Resources Limited which was false in material particular.
These incidents happened on dates unknown but between the 1st day of January 2020 and the 2nd day of March 2022 Kitwe, Copperbelt Province.
In the same period and jurisdiction, the accused companies and Directors fraudulently recovered Value Added Tax by furnishing false returns that taxable supplies were made to Eagles Eye Transformation Limited, Focus Equipment and Services Limited, Mineral Junxion and Transport Limited and Taurus Mining Resources Limited when in fact not.
When the matters came up for plea on 30th June 2022 before Honourable Pumulo Mubita, Maloza Phiri and Denson Muchamba respectively the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against them.
The Government of the Republic of Zambia lost taxes in the sum of K10.7 million due to the alleged fraudulent recovery of Value Added Tax by the said companies and Directors.
The cases have been adjourned to the 3rd of August 2022, 8th August 2022 and 22nd August 2022 for commencement of trial.
The cases are before Honourable Pumulo Mubita, Maloza Phiri and Denson Muchamba and they are being prosecuted by the ZRA in-house Counsels in the Kitwe Subordinate Court, criminal jurisdiction.
