THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it has noted complaints the general public on motorists over speeding on roads in less built up areas which do not have speed humps.

The local authority says it is studying the causes so that remedial measures can be taken.

“Therefore, Members of the public are encouraged to report accidents to enable the authority take such into account,” LCC public relations officer Veronica Katongo said in a statement.

Katongo said roads built without humps was necessitated to mitigate the traffic build up that had been observed in the City over the recent years.

“The Local Authority on the other hand therefore advises motorists to follow the stipulated 60km/h speed limit in areas such as Nangwenya and Kamloops roads in order to deter any form of road accidents,” she said.

“The LCC also wishes to inform motorists that in an effort to further mitigate the traffic build up and also ensure safety of road users the LCC working in collaboration with the relevant authorities will be quick to discipline motorists who choose not to abide to these traffic rules,” she added.

Katongo said the measure would allow for the intended purpose of the newly constructed Roads to materialize adding that the roads were constructed under the Lusaka Decongestion Project.

The objective of this project is to construct and upgrade various roads and junctions in the City.

Katongo noted that the LCC had the mandate to maintain these roads in the City for easier flow of traffic and also ensure safety of both motorists and the general public in Lusaka.
