THE rising popularity of Chingola Central aspiring Independent candidate Chilekwa Mumba is not going unnoticed and sending shock-waves in the constituency.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 19, 2021, Mumba in the company of his campaign manager, Mr. Chisanga Simukonda, drew the attention of ruling party cadres some of whom promised to place their vote on his ticket.

The youthful politician had joined Councillor Richard Mutale as part of the solidarity team when the latter filed his nomination for one of the 18 civic leadership positions at Chiwempala Secondary School.

According to Mumba’s Media Campaign Team, PF supporters spotted and mobbed the independent candidate and lifted him shoulder high as they celebrated his presence at the Nomination Center.

Speaking after the incident, Mumba said he was unaware what his presence would attract as he merely went to offer support to a colleague.

“I went to lend support to my brother Councillor Hon. Richard Mutale who is standing in Kabungo Ward.

“As we were waiting around for him to come out of the Nomination Center, a PF lady recognized me. She pointed into my direction and said, ‘that is Chilekwa who has worked for Chingola and is an Independent Candidate’,” he narrated.

Soon after he was spotted by one of the women in the audience, the rest of the group mobbed Mr. Mumba and lifted him on their shoulders to celebrate his presence.

“My Campaign Manager and myself simply had to pull out to avoid disrupting a proceeding near the nomination center. It was not my event, and I had to do the right thing.

“Chingola, we are humbled and thankful for recognizing our works,”

Mumba urged Chingola constituents to vote on his ticket and that of Councillor Mutale to be assured of credible representation in parliament and at local government level respectively.

He said his campaign message to empower youth and women, improve agriculture for rural constituents and place advocacy for miner’s interests at the heart of his leadership should send enough signals for a ray of hope awaits Chingola.

Mumba is one of the four candidates contesting the Chingola Central parliamentary seat where about 67, 000 voters will decide their next voice on Manda Hill.
