The Zambia Police Service warns that it will use minimum force such as batons and other equipment to deal with troublemakers during the forthcoming elections.
In an interview with journalists earlier this week, Commissioner Charity Katanga, Deputy Inspector of Police-Operations said police will not allow the lawlessness that characterized Youth Day Celebrations in Kitwe but whilst upholding the human rights of offenders, will apply minimum force as proscribed by the Police Act.
“Police will not tolerate lawlessness, we are given power by the Police Act to use minimum force and police are going to do that for the sake of peace,” she said.
She assured politicians of a level playing field and also urged journalists not to put themselves in harm’s way.
