ZAMBIAN Muslims are mourning the death of prominent imam and Sheikh, Taha Chiwala who died this morning aged 56.
He died in the University Teaching Hospital UTH in the early hours of Wednesday after being ill for the last five days.
Although he was teacher, preacher and leader of prayers, many Muslims young and old alike have described Sheikh Taha as a “friend and brother”.
He was a teacher of Islamic teachings from whom many Zambian Muslims say they learned from.
“A great man, a wonderful soul, a very pleasant individual, a kind and charitable human, a humble giant, a cornerstone of the community in Lusaka, a very supportive member of the Muslim community of Makeni, an amazing member of this Ummah, a loving father and a genuine friend,” Sheikh Ikram Patel of Makeni Islamic Society said about Sheikh Taha.
Sheikh Musa Saidi of Kuomboka Mosque described Sheikh Taha’s death as “very sad” while
Sheikh Siddique Kaputula of Kitwe said Sheikh Taha was one of the most active propagators, and “we did several dawah programs in Ndola and Lusaka.”
Sheikh Taha will be buried this afternoon preceded by prayers a Umar Mosque in Lusaka.
