A 38-YEAR-OLD man of Zambia Compound in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt has died after being beaten for stealing four plastic chairs.
Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo has identified the deceased as Stanslous Chalwe Makofi.
According to Katongo, Charles Phiri aged 24 has been arrested in connection with Makofi’s death.
Katongo explained that the incident is reported to have occurred when the Makofi was accused of stealing four plastic chairs and upon being apprehended by Phiri, he was beaten and later taken to the Police with a deep cut on the forehead and was complaining of general body pains.
“Police rushed the victim to Kakoso Hospital for medical attention where he later died after few hours,” she revealed.
Katongo said Phiri was now detained in police custody and is yet to be charged.
