THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has extended the voter registration exercise.
ECZ Chief Electoral officer Patrick Nshindano however said the extension which will run from Wednesday this will week will be announced on Tuesday December 15, this year.
He said this is to allow for a comprehensive review of the statistics and logistical arrangements.
“You may also be aware that our registration officers have worked continuously for the last one month with no break. The three days will also allow them to rest and recharge in readiness to resume the voter registration exercise,” Nshindano.
Meanwhile, the commission has announced that the cumulative number of registered voters will be announced on Tuesday.
Nshindano further said the disaggregated data will be available after the consolidation and cleanup of the register.
He also emphasised that for one to register as voter, the person must be a Zambian citizen aged 18 and above and in possession of a Green National Registration Card.
“The Commission therefore, would like to categorically state that it is illegal for anyone to register as a voter if they do not meet these requirements.
Any person who does not meet these requirements and attempts to register as voter commits an offence which liable for prosecution,” Nshindano said.
