GOVERNMENT has through the Ministry of Health reject an application by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) to hold a congress citing a COVID-19 threat as the reason.

The newly-formed MDC led by Felix Mutati had through its interim secretary general Lucky Mulusa applied to hold a congress to usher in new leadership from December 17 to 19, 2020.

But in response, director of in the National Public Health Institute Ministry of Health Dr Victor Mukonka expressed fear that “the global picture indicates a ‘second wave’ of the COVID-19 as countries laxed on the public health measures”.

Dr Mukonka said while the government appreciated the importance of the MDC’s congress, the risk posed by the COVID-19 global pandemic was currently high with the coming of the cold whether during the rainy season and resurgence in many countries, including some in Africa.

He promised that government would review the proposed dates of the congress.

“THE Public Health Act CAP and issued Statory Instruments 21 and 22 of 2020 guide our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Guided by public health guidelines and His Excellency the President’s g given during the various national addresses, public health measures with the guidance of the Ministry of Health must be in place as we return to normalcy,” stated Dr Mukonka.

floral dress by Dolce & Gabanna which cinched in at the waist, and lace up.
