POLICE in Palabana have arrested a couple of Lusaka’s Chipata Compound for stealing a six-year-old boy.

The married couple whose identities have been withheld by police were found with the boy went missing on October 27, 2020 in Chongwe.

The child’s mother Alice Chimwanza of Waterfalls Area on Palabana Road in Chongwe District had reported that her son had been snatched by a strange woman around 10:00 hours of October 27.

After weeks of investigations, on Wednesday Police received information that the suspect had been spotted at some farm along great East road and members of the public were about to attack her.

However, police quickly intervened and saved the woman who police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo says is a resident of Lusaka’s Chipata Compound.

“After interrogations, the suspect led officers to Chipata Compound where her husband was also apprehended,” Katongo revealed.

“The officers were later led to Chadleigh along Magoye road where the child was later found,” she added.

Katongo said the child had since been reunited with his family while investigations in the matter had continued.

“The two suspects are detained in police custody for the offence of Child Stealing awaiting Court appearance,” she said.

Katongo advised guadians and parents to be security cautious by monitoring the whereabouts of their children and should not allow their children to move unaccompanied.

She said in instances where members of the public suspected their children to be missing, they should quickly report to any nearest police.
