THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Justice Essau Chulu has assured the nation that 2021 general elections will be free and fair contrary to assertions in some quarters that the Commission plans to rig the elections in favour of the ruling party.
Justice Chulu says the allegations of rigging allegations are unfounded and should be ignored by all well-meaning Zambians.
He was responding to Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s question when he paid a courtesy call on him on whether or not the Commission intends to rig the 2021 general elections in favour of the ruling party.
Justice Chulu said the Commission is addressing the problems associated with delays in announcing election results and will in the upcoming by elections in Lukashya and Mwansabombwe determine the effectiveness of some of the strategies it has put in place.
And Paramount Chief Chitimukulu urged the Commission to work towards addressing the problem of voter apathy through extensive voter education to ensure more people participate in voting.
