THE ZAMBIA Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has given Lusaka-based journalist Melony Chisanga up to 10:00 hours today to report himself or be forcibly picked up.

Although it is not clear why ZICTA has summoned Chisanga, sources from the authority say the journalist is wanted in connection with the June 22 ‘Bush Youth Protest’ they believe he streamed live on #Kalemba.

On Friday morning, a man who identified himself as Pablo from ZICTA’s cyber security called Chisanga’s mobile phone and asked him to report himself to answer questions arising from an inquiry the authority was undertaking in conjunction with the Zambia Police Service.

Later in the day, Chisanga a former Post reporter and currently a correspondent of The Mast Newspaper says he called ZICTA to reschedule the meeting but no one answered the phone.

Yesterday, Pablo called back Chisanga again and demanded that he reports himself but when Chisanga told him that he needed to engage lawyers, another man who said he was a supervisor in ZICTA cyber security came on the line and threatened to forcibly apprehend the reporter if he did not report himself today.

“They issue is about that ‘disgruntled youths’ protest in the bush. They understand that Melony is the admin of #Kalemba which streamed the protest live,” said a source.

Chisanga has confirmed being summoned by ZICTA.
