POLICE in Nakonde have arrested a man they believe was part of a trio that staged an armed robbery at Manyanya Complex and stealing K81,672 yesterday morning.
31-year-old Jason Simbeye was arrested in the early hours of today and was found with K50, 570 in cash.
“The said suspect was tactfully apprehended around 01:00 by a team of officers who laid an ambush at Peaceful Landa Guest House which is situate near Nakonde-Mbala checkpoint at Wulongo, along the Great North road were he was lodging with the other suspect who managed to escape after a confrontation,” Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase has said.
Also recovered from Simbeye was a Toyota MarkX with registration number BAP 428.
According to Chete FM Radio of Nakonde, officers have suspected that the number plate is not for the vehicle but was used to get away with the crime.
Police say they are still investigating the matter and hunting for Simbeye’s accomplices.
