AFTER a year of cementing their love, musician Kantu Siachingili and her beau Michael Phiri last Saturday tied the knot at a low key but joyous ceremony.
So while many a fan enjoyed the soothing sounds of the 30-year-old diva known to many simply as Kantu, Lusaka businessman Michael was busy plotting on how to make her his wife.
It was not easy for Michael, though. After knowing Kantu through a friend, he decided to try his luck but his messages went unanswered for a whole a month.
Michael was about to give up but Kantu finally responded to his message and they got to know each other.
On April 5 this year, Kantu’s birthday, the romantic Michael proposed and she gladly said yes!
On Saturday, the couple were wedded, preceded by the traditional Chilangamulimo in which the groom, his family and friends were feted with a buffet of sumptuous local cuisines.
Kantu with her family set up base in a picturesque area in Chilanga, prepared the meals before a delegation delivered to their money-splashing hosts in Lilayi area.
Later in the evening, the couple’s ululating family and friends braved the chilly evening to cheer the newlyweds on.
The actual ceremony took the form of a musical concert as the compere Sista D called on her husband Maiko and their daughter Mwiza to perform.
Also performing on the night was BFlow and T-Boy, while Pilato only spoke to congratulate the couple as he has no love songs.
In seperate interviews, Kantu and Michael spoke of their love for each other and how they look forward to having many beautiful children!
Kantu Habanji Siachingili, known professionally as Kantu, which is also written as Kan 2, is a singer and songwriter, and an ambassador to the Triple V Campaign. She first came onto the Zambian music scene when she featured on rapper Slapdee’s track “Remember”.
