POLICE in Eastern Province have arrested a 35-year-old businessman who attempted to swindle provincial minister Makebi Zulu while posing as Bowman Lusambo.
Patrick Banda of Petauke district had already swindled five businessmen in Chipata district, the money amounting to over K26, 000 by the time police caught up with him.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Luckson Sakala said the suspect had been charged with several counts of obtaining money by false pretences while impersonating Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo.
Commissioner Sakala confirmed that Banda swindled five businessmen in Chipata district of money amounting to over K26 000.
He said police arrested Banda in Katete at one of the mobile money booths where the money he received after swindling someone was withdrawn from.
Sakala said the fake Bowman Lusambo was currently in police custody and will appear in court soon.
Commenting on the matter, the real Bowman Lusambo, Lusaka Province Minister warned those in the habit of committing such crimes that the law will catch up with them.
Lusambo disclosed that Banda had also on several occasions contacted cabinet ministers while impersonating him.
According to Radio Phoenix News, the suspect is also Lusangazi district chairperson loosing candidate for the 2018 by-election.
