TANZANIAN music star Diamond Platnumz has offered to pay three-month house rent for 500 families in his home country to cushion their economic hardships in the wake of the Coronavirus.
The East African country has so far recorded 299 cases of COVID-19, with 10 deaths.
Globally, the pandemic has infected more than 2 million people, killed over 200,000 and brought many businesses to a standstill.
In a post on his Instagram account yesterday evening, Diamond said he knew that the “frightening” pandemic had changed the economic circumstances of livelihoods.
He observed that many businesses were drowning and resulting in financial difficulties for many thereby making “life a little bit tough to many of us.
“Although I am amongst those affected by this pandemic on the economy, with the little that God has blessed me with, I have decided to at least offer a helping hand by paying 3 months house rent to 500 families as my kind gesture of helping one another during these terrible times of COVID-19 for l believe I should share your troubles and happiness too,” he announced.
The award-winning 30-year-old star said he will on Monday guide how the 500 families would receive the monies.
Diamond, real names Naseeb Abdul Juma Issack, is also a dancer and a businessman from Tandale, Dar es Salaam.
He has had several hit songs including “Number One” featuring Nigerian artiste Davido and has won numerous awards, including Channel O, MTV Awards, Soundcity, Kilimanjaro Music Awards, Headies, Afrima, Afrimma, Kora, AEA and HiPipo Music Awards.
