A RUMOUR that the school had been gassed this afternoon sent panicky and frightened pupils of Lotus Basic School in Lusaka scampering out of classes and prematurely ended lessons for the day.

Pupils of the school located in Kamwala area stampeded out of classes and raced for the exit gate after an alarm was raised around 14:00 hours that gassers had attacked the school.
It is not clear who announced the presence of the Gassesrs.

But Police from Kamwala Post and Kabwata Police Station responded to the incident soon after only to find that it was a hoax.

Police then evacuated the school and asked the pupils and teaching staff to go home.

Yesterday, there was commotion at Arthur Wina Basic School in Chilenje after a Grade 9 class is said to have been gassed.

Although pupils themselves said they suffered chest pains, itchy throats while others fainted along with Chilenje Ward 8 councilor Patrick Mwape confirming that about 40 pupils were treated for gassing at Chilenje First Level Hospital, Police dismissed the report as a hoax.
