POLICE have urged bus drivers and traders to report political party cadres who are harassing them at stations and markets.

Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo said police would be on hand to take action against the perpetrators of the violence and harassment at the markets and bus stations if the victims alerted them.

“We are positioning officers in strategic areas to patrol and intervene in situations that would require their attention. All those being harassed should be reporting these cases to these officers for action to be taken,” Katongo said in response to a query from Times of Zambia.

There has been sporadic cases of cadres harassing bus drivers and traders after the Government recently stopped them from collecting levies I markets and bus stations.

The Patriotic Front whose cadres are blamed for the harassment dispelled assertions that its party members were the ones collecting levies in bus stations and markets.
