I want a Christian legacy – Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu wants to be remembered as someone who created an environment for Christian values to thrive in Zambia.

The President said this on Friday evening when he graced a fundraising dinner for Monze Catholic Diocese.

The Church is raising money for the construction of a cathederal.

The President shared a Bible verse: 2 Samuel 7 verses 1-7 which is an account of the Lord telling King David to build him a house.

“As a President of our beloved country, Zambia I can relate to David’s situation. I would like to be remembered as one who not only led the development of this country but also created an environment for Christian values to thrive. We lead for God, for we are only custodians of his people,” he said.

President Lungu commended the Catholic Church for its contribution to social sectors such as education and health.

President Lungu celebrated his 63rd birthday yesterday.

A photo exhibition under the theme “ECL: The Family Man, Lawyer and Politician was launched by Tourism minister Ronald Chitotela at Lusaka National Meusium yesterday.

Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa and Tourism permanent secretary Amos Malupenga attended the photo exhibition launch.

State House announced yesterday that service chiefs delivered birthday gifts to President Lungu yesterday.

Birthday wishes have been pouring in for President Lungu.

“The Embassy of Zambia in Riyadh join hands with others in wishing, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, a happy birthday,” Deputy Ambassador at the Zambian Embassy Saudi Arabia Huzaifa Jada said in statement.

Jada stated that Ambassador Mumba echoed the words of Rosalyn Carter in praising the leadership of President Lungu.

“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be,” Jada quoted Mumba.
