THE Zambian government is developing a National Health Services Bill to improve healthcare delivery and information flow within the health system.
This announcement was made by professor Christopher Simoonga, Permanent Secretary for Administration at the Ministry of Health.
The bill is expected to address shortcomings in the current healthcare system and enhance service quality.
Speaking at the official opening of a three-day Capacity Building Workshop for public relations officers (PROs) in Chongwe, Prof. Simoonga emphasised the need for proactive communication from public relations practitioners as they serve the public.
He also highlighted the importance of publicising the government’s significant achievements in the health sector.
“The government acknowledges the significant role public relations play in the development of the country and assures its continued support,” Simoonga said.
He urged communication experts in various healthcare facilities to promote the government’s milestones in healthcare development.
Meanwhile, Modern Mayembe, the Ministry of Information and Media director for Press and Media Development, advised communication experts to ensure the prudent utilisation of government resources.
In his presentation on the Access to Information Law, Mayembe pointed out that the new bill would reveal many flaws, including those involving government workers engaged in financial crimes.
He called for self-restraint in managing public resources to ensure accountability.
