THE LUSAKA City Council (LCC) has suspended all social gatherings which include Kitchen Parties Chilangamulilos and weddings for the next two weeks.
In a statement this afternoon, LCC public relations manager George Sichimba announced the suspension saying the measure was meant to arrest the surging cases of COVID-19 infections.
He said suspensions of the social gatherings was with immediate effect.
“This means that no permit for social gatherings such as weddings, Chilanga Mulilo, Kitchen parties and Matebeto among others shall be issued,” Sichimba explained.
He said funeral gatherings had been restricted to only 50 close members of the family.
Sichimba said Lusaka deputy mayor Christopher Shakafuswa has also discouraged religious and political gatherings.
The Deputy Mayor urged authorities in markets and bus stations to ensure that commuters and traders adhere to COVID-19 guidelines at all times.
Shakafuswa extended the call to vendors, adding that failure to do so may force the local authority to take other drastic measures.
